Press Release: Ministers blocking thousands of university applicants

Responding to new UCAS figures on university applications published today, which show an 8.8 per cent rise since this time last year, Shadow Innovation, Universities and Skills Secretary, David Willetts said:

“It is good news that more people are applying to university, but we already know that ministers have capped the number of places available.

“There are nine per cent more applicants this year, yet few additional places. Ministers are paving the way for thousands of young people to be disappointed this summer, forcing them onto an appalling job market. Young people must not be the victims of this recession.”
